During the month of September, Quito has the honor of receiving the plastic artist Zadok Ben David, who has participated in numerous biennials and exhibitions around the world and whose works address issues of evolution and human nature. The London-based artist transforms metal into wonderful miniatures or large installations that shock the viewer into a magical and poetic world. Currently his spectacular works are exhibited in the best museums and galleries on all continents.
Zadok Ben David was born in Yemen in 1949, emigrated to Israel during his childhood, where he studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Later he settled in London, where he studied sculpture at St. Martin’s School of Art and later became a professor at this institution. He represented Israel at the 1988 Venice Biennale. He was awarded the Grand Prize at the XIV International Art Biennale of Vila Nova de Cerveira in Portugal. He also received the Sculpture Prize from the Tel Aviv Museum in 2005. He was also commissioned to make a sculpture for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
On this occasion, he has chosen our beautiful capital to exhibit his surprising work “People I saw, but I did not know”, an installation that includes more than 6,000 miniature figures, which will occupy 1,200 m2 at the Itchimbía Cultural Center. Quito is proud to welcome this great artist, whose work shows us a reflection of the citizens of the world, transporting us to a fascinating universe in which the viewer will be tempted to access and be part of the harmony, movement and beauty of the sample. In addition, as is the desire of the artist, this presentation will allow Ecuador to become an open door for his work to be known more closely by the rest of the South American countries. This exhibition can be visited by Quito citizens at no cost.
